A reflection from Khalid from George Mason University...

"My experience at George Mason University (GMU) was really beyond words. It was the opportunity of a lifetime!  GMU is one of the most diverse universities in America today. I met many people from all over the world, people with different cultures and backgrounds, different thoughts and points of view. Meeting all these people made me realize that I really have an identity.   This experience made me learn much more about myself.
My experience at GMU, change my entire view about the world at large. I began to see what truly is out there in the world for us.   The people at GMU are really friendly, open-minded, welcoming, and easy going.
One final thing that I would like to say is to those who are thinking about going to study abroad; I strongly advise one to make GMU his/her first choice among all the available alternatives. GMU is the best place to  study abroad, so don’t miss the opportunity, it might be the only chance you’ll get.... Go to GMU... “where innovation is tradition”."

A note from Saslikar at AUD...

My experiences in AUD so far has been phenomenal, the people are extremely friendly and welcoming. People may think studying in the middle east is strict and filled with rules, but it is really liberal. The city never sleeps! describing these experiences in a few lines is impossible- its an ineffable feeling.

Experiences at AU...2011!

Osarenogae's experience at AU....

My experience at the American University was awesome. Prior to my arrival at AU, I had only imagined and heard about the lifestyle and diversity of students in the United States. But through the study abroad program, I got to meet people from all over the world and form friendships with them. Living and interacting with them made them more real to me and allowed me to learn firsthand about their cultures.
Studying at AU was amazing. The professors there are very friendly and are eager to work with students regardless of their backgrounds. Learning in the classroom is like a 2-way thing as they love comments and questions from students. The social life there is buzzing. They are tons of clubs to join and activities to do. There also a lot of places to visit in D.C. - my favorite place was the National Zoo. So, if you have a chance to study abroad at AU, my advice is: "Don't think about it twice, just go! go!! go!!!".

Blog Entry from Adedoyinsola Adebanjo

My name is Adedoyinsola Adebanjo, chemistry by major. I am at AU abroad this semester, spring 2011. My experiences so far have been great. The American University is a university with different students from different countries. The culture in the United States is different from the culture in Nigeria and there is a bit of diversity, but yet the people here are great and that is making  things much easier to handle. Academically and socially, the American University is great. Personally, I advise students at the American University of Nigeria ''AUN'' to go for study abroad anywhere in the world. The experience is going to change your life in all aspects.

AUN Students Arrive at AU in Washington D.C.!

Four AUN students embarked on their study abroad experience to American University in Washington DC in January.  Here are some of their thoughts and pictures they have shared on their first few weeks in the United States....

Blog entry from Tosin:
(Posted 2/2/2011)

"Coming to DC has really been a wonderful experience. So far, I have had a good time.
The first day I came here, wasn't a good experience, I did not expect the weather to be that cold like I was told. So I just wore a light jacket and slippers. By the time I got to school, I knew I was now in a new environment which made me change my clothes quickly. But now, I have gotten used to the weather. It is no longer a big deal.

Since I got to the US, it has really been a wonderful place. You find almost everything working as it is supposed to.

I have found one good thing about AU students. But I don't know if it applies to other people in DC. Everyone appreciates everyone irrespective of your class. For example, any time the bus driver stops at the bus station, as everyone is going out of the bus, you hear them say "thank you". Which is really interesting to learn. This is something good I have not seen in most AUN students.

Also, you have some really nice people over here, different from what others usually say about US. They can be true to some extent but not absolutely true. This is something I have trained myself with over the years that is, never defining my thoughts to what others think about a person, place or thing. I just want to find it for myself which is just cool.

One of the things I have observed so much in the US is that the law is really enforced. For example, if you are not up to 21 years you cannot buy an alcohol from any store. You must just live by it unless you want to face the consequence of your offense.

Coming to the education, it is magnificent. I love the classroom, there are fully equipped just for everything you think a classroom should have. The instructors are also very good. If you are ready to communicate with them, they will guide you in almost all your questions, they let you participate more in the classroom which is very important.

One very funny part at AU is the food. unfortunately, It has been terrible. But I have found my way out of that situation. I just had to adapt to it instantly.

Absolutely, I have adapted so fast to DC. I am fully having a great time. And one note to all those who are thinking of study abroad, I will employ you to come here. You will enjoy this place. Also, you will learn a lot of new things. From the cultural diversities down to yourself."
